Google rolls out Dashboard, mixed reaction from around the VirtualWorld
Google, yesterday rolled out a whole new web application for its users dubbed as “” which enables a user using almost 20 different Google services to manage and sort of edit all the different services, privacy settings and account information at a single place.
Google, as what some people may refer to as a revolution in our day to day computer and Internet Needs which has taken a place of a Cesar in this virtual world has rolled out a whole new product in its never ending list of applications and products.
The newest in the stable known as web application. According to a few notable tech articles publishers has condemned this new application and also dubbed it as a way to hurt or crawl over user’s privacy.
One Such post by suggests a definite example how this new application can open the doors for random crawlers to your personal information.
“For example, I have seven Google Calendars (yes, I am freakish in that way). Google’s Dashboard told me one of them was public, but didn’t identify which one. A public calendar can reveal scads of sensitive info — like the names, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses of people you’re meeting with, or when you’ll be out of town for an extended period. It’s one-stop shopping for identity thieves and/or your local cat burglar.” Mr Cringely Explained.
I had to go through my calendar settings one by one until I identified the culprit (which, fortunately, was one I never use for personal info). Had Google really wanted to enhance “transparency, choice, and control” they would have made this a one-click operation , Mr Cringely Added.
the Dashboard gathers up almost every Google service you’ve signed up for and displays the most basic settings for each on a single page. Here’s how describes it:
“In an effort to provide you with greater transparency and control over their own data, we’ve built the Google Dashboard. Designed to be simple and useful, the Dashboard summarizes data for each product that you use (when signed in to your account) and provides you direct links to control your personal settings.”
Seem like Google loves to make the news and its not a usual sight that the specific news generated by the Internet Giant, recieved a lot of negative raves all around the web in just a couple of days of the launch.
Adding to the sting , described it as “disappointing,” and suggested “there’s nothing really new about this list.”
Also added in his post at Mashable – “Unfortunately, it’s also an unpleasant reminder of just how much data you’re giving out to Google (and other online services).”
